Phew! What a day the 4th was!! It started with a parade in the morning.  The WEE EARLY morning, with an 8am start! The Beverly Farms Horribles Parade is famous nationwide for it's rather controversial floats, but this year it was made famous by the appearance of the Arbella Independent! OK, I could be exaggerating

December used to be considered the "off season" for the drum corps activity, but these days World Class Corps are hosting monthly winter audition camps, Senior Corps in our region are either off or  preparing for the Bugler's Hall of Fame, and here in Arbella, we are caroling for the holidays! The season is a great

[bhof-springfield2014] To be fair, there seemed to be a lot of last minute cancellations, but we will take those medals anyway! On Saturday Jose, Jenna, board member Medley Long, Lauren and Zoe squeezed into the Volvo to take part in the Bugler's Hall of Fame in Springfield Mass. This event was not just fun (it's

When I first attended the Salem Maritime Festival several years ago, I thought there was only one thing missing from this fabulous maritime event.  There were old ships, live demos, things for the kids to do, kites to make and fly on the beach, period re-enactors, free cruises in the harbor, live music, but I

Arbella Color Guard stops for photos on Salem Common with Salem Mayor Kimberly Driscoll and WCVB Anchorman Randy Price, June 30th, 2012. June 30th was a big day for us.  Despite our small size, Arbella made a big impact in the first-ever North Shore Pride Parade hosted in Salem.  Joel Dube ('82-'83) led

Drum Corps didn't always celebrate diversity I think we can all remember back to times in our youth where boys weren't allowed in color guard (unless it was Madison Scouts or the Cavies), and I've even heard stories of reverse situations, of how girls weren't welcome in hornlines.   Whether it was sexism, elitism, gay-ism

For a nauticalia buff and drum corps nut such as myself, America's Hometown Thanksgiving celebration in Plymouth has it all!  The sea, old ships, food festival, period re-enactments, AND drum corps??? The only thing missing was a nautically-themed drum corps (which we will rectify next year!).  It was fantastic to see the effect each corps
